Our Story

From a Hand-Built Log Home to a Finger Lakes Treasure

Where It All Began

In 1966, G. Henry Boyce built a log home on a secluded hillside in Canandaigua, surrounded by wooded hills and overlooking a quiet pond. What began as a private retreat would eventually become one of the Finger Lakes’ most cherished destinations. The hand-crafted log construction, with its warm wood interiors and stone fireplaces, gave the property a character that has endured through the decades.

A Tradition of Welcome

Over the years, the property passed through the hands of dedicated innkeepers who each added their own chapter to the Chalet’s story. Margaret Covington and Pattie English lovingly operated the inn from 2006 to 2023, building its reputation as a premier Finger Lakes destination. Lisa and Mike FitzGerald continued that legacy from 2023 to 2025, maintaining the standard of warmth and hospitality that guests had come to expect.

A New Chapter Begins

In 2025, the Soberon family took the reins, bringing with them three generations of hospitality and culinary expertise. Their passion for welcoming guests is matched by their dedication to exceptional food — sourcing farm-fresh eggs and pasture-raised meats from their own family operation, Soberon LLC, and growing herbs in the Chalet’s on-site garden. Every meal is prepared with care, and every guest is treated like family.
